The summer season has begun, giving us a chance for vacations and gatherings, while also enabling us to refresh, recover, and reorganize. Our staff at Appalachia Bare would like to express how deeply grateful we are for our readers, contributors, and subscribers. Thank you for helping to further our mission to promote Appalachia and reveal her stories.
Appalachia Bare will be taking our summer hiatus and will return on July 16, 2025. We take two of these little breaks during the year to regroup and to maintain the site. We are excited about a few updates that we will feature upon our return. In the meantime, please peruse our nearly 500 posts from over the past five years.
We wish everyone safe journeys, good health, and a beautiful summer season. See you in about three weeks.

Enjoy your well-deserved hiatus. Thank you for all the terrific content you publish. We appreciate you!
A well-deserved break. As always, thank you for providing a welcoming forum for so many Appalachian stories —even those from a city slicker who hasn’t always been on the “right side” of Appalachian history.
