What a busy and successful year we’ve had here at Appalachia Bare! Submissions have greatly increased and it has been such an honor to have been entrusted with such remarkable works and stories about the Appalachian region. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our readers, perusers, contributors, submitters, subscribers, and social media followers. Thank you for your interest, for comments and likes. Thank you for delivering such amazing content. Thank you for all the encouragement in person and across the internet.
Some of our readers may have wondered where those of us who are behind the omnibus have been. We’ve been working hard to promote Appalachia Bare and to plan an exciting 2026 full of interesting and exceptional content. Good changes are afoot, and in order to implement them, we will be taking an extended (two month) winter hiatus from November 29, 2025, to January 27, 2026. We’ll take that time to also restore ourselves and prepare for the year ahead.
We take submissions year-round, so you can continue to submit your great stories about this region, whether written or photographed or filmed, etc. For guidelines, follow this page: https://www.appalachiabare.com/submissions/.
On January 28, 2026, our Chief Editor, Delonda Anderson, will discuss news about exciting changes and opportunities for Appalachia Bare in her “Editor’s Poke.”
Here is just a smidgeon of content to expect in the coming year:
An upcoming contest, launched by our own Associate Editor, Edward Francisco.
An update about the Daugherty series (an eerie little tale)
Clarifications and apologies (thank you to Allison Gunn)
Needed adjustments for our submissions
An exciting new endeavor for our magazine
Of course, for Appalachia Bare, the most important part of any new year are the stories—your stories, our stories—that need to be recorded for posterity, for recognition, for accuracy. People besides us have tried to tell our stories for centuries. But our voices are unique and our experiences are firsthand. Who better than us to tell our own stories?
Fresh and noteworthy content will return in January. In the meantime, feel free to peruse our site and join us in thanking the 2025 contributors who were published below. A link to contributors’ own websites, if available, is provided. Thank you for outstanding content and another wonderful year!
